The washing line – il filo da stendere…

On our way home -facendo ritorno a casa,

as we were driving through the country roads – mentre guidavamo per le stradine di campagna,

we started to notice – abbiamo iniziato a fare caso,

how in one particular village – come in un paesino in particolare,

everybody seemed to have their washing – tutti sembravano aver il bucato,

out to dry – fuori ad asciugare…

The village was an explosion of colour – il paese era pieno di colori,

sheets, of all different colours were flapping happily in the wind – lenzuola di tutti i colori svolazzavano felicemente al vento,

 almost as if animated by a life of their own – quasi fossero animati da vita propria..

We started guessing judging by the clothes – iniziamo ad indovinare giudicando dai vestiti,

who the inhabitants of the houses could be – chi potevano essere l’abitanti delle case…

A tiny pair of jeans, baby underwear – un minuscolo paio di jeans,intimo da bebè…

An old white lace apron – un vecchio grembiule di pizzo bianco…

A trendy track suit – una tuta da ginastica di moda…

We didn’t see anybody around at all – non abbiamo visto nessuno,

but as we drove past – ma mentre ci allontanavamo,

we felt as if we had already met – ci siamo sentite come se gli avvessimo gia conosciuti…
